A catch can is designed with baffling on the inside to trap oil and vapor in the bottom side of the reservoir while still allowing the crankcase to breathe freely through a filter that's on the top side. An oil separator is placed in line between PCV hoses. It has a mesh screen and filter material that traps the oil and vapor. Only 5 to 10% of the oil found in the intake manifold comes from the "clean side". You can just buy two Elite Engineering cans or one like shown in this post that has dual cans on one bracket. (Ignore the LS1 valve covers with the second port hooked up to the other valve cover)

My valley tray does not have a breather like other later LS motors. I need to set up a PCV system for it but not sure whats the best way to. I don't want pressure problems and start blowing seals or have the motor running like trash. I also have a catch can with an optional breather that can be plugged.

The early setup: Look at your throttle body and you'll see a hose connecting it to the rocker cover. Disconnect it at the throttle body end and re-route it to the catch can. On the front of the inlet manifold (same side) you'll see another hose that wraps around the back of the motor.

Agree, no PVC catch can is breathing from the atmosphere. Plus as stated the system is supposed to suck the air from the valve covers from the crank case and is now sucking air from the atmosphere (path of least resistance). What means....You have an ineffective/non working PVC system.

It arrived a few days ago and I just got it put in. I had to bend the bracket a bit, and remove the handle for my optima and twist the terminal around to the side a bit.
The catch cans and systems only work as well as you did making sure what you bought is what you need. After determining which can type you need, you may also want to make sure that the hoses and fittings mounted to it and your engine are right for your application. Custom Swirly Black. 2001 WS6 M6. The catch can wont work nearly as well with a breather. The intake will draw air in from the path of least resistance, which will be the filter. And any pressure build up in the cover will be lowered b/c some of it will leak out into the filter path.
